Doctors Care is a private, nonprofit organization established to provide accessible medical services and improve the health of low-income people living in South Metro Denver. The program offers medical care through an extensive network of physicians and hospitals who agree to treat eligible patients at significantly-reduced fees. Doctors Care transitioned to the PLEXIS Claims Manager software in order to more efficiently balance the workload of 950 volunteer physicians in 98 different specialties and over 1,000 patients who utilize the program each year. “We’ve always had goals around tracking patient outcomes and diagnostic data on our patients,” says Program Director Michelle Johnston, “but spreadsheets and a 20-year-old database weren’t cutting it. Now we are able to have real-time, comprehensive health data on our patients, which helps us determine how to best meet the needs of those we serve.”
PLEXIS Claims Manager software allows volunteers of diverse levels of technological and database management experience at Doctors Care to easily track demographic information on patients and manage specialty referrals with ensured accuracy. In addition, through the insurance claims forms received from the physicians, the staff at Doctors Care can track trends in diagnoses and treatments offered and provide educational services to patients based on this data. The ability to write unlimited reports to specific data needs while having the flexibility to adapt as requirements change has made the most immediately recognizable difference to front-end users. In addition, being able to develop more complex reports for the constantly changing needs of Doctors Care grant funders ensures that the organization will be financially viable for years to come.
